Leighton Jordan: Miss Georgia 2012
Miss Capital City
Ballet en' Pointe; Malagueña
Duke of Edinburgh recipient
Since crowning a new Miss Georgia just one year ago, I moved to the beautiful and quiet city of Huntsville, Alabama to finish my nursing degree with my focus on one day becoming a Nurse Practitioner in pediatric oncology. With unending gratitude to the Miss Georgia board, I was offered a four year, full ride scholarship to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a move I was not too sure about at the time, but a move that has proven to be one of the most thrilling and freeing experiences of my life. In the past year at UAH, I have maintained the GPA I sought to; was offered a job in the Microbiology Lab; was invited into The National Society of Leadership and Success; was offered a volunteer spot in the Huntsville Hospital ER; have been the guest speaker at various events; was the key note speaker at the Athens NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) walk; became extremely involved in an on-campus ministry group; have found a wonderful new church; am finally living a life in recovery from an eating disorder (Praise be to our God); and have met a man whose heart is so thirsty for the Lord and whose kindness and humor have captured my heart. I will always and forever be grateful beyond words to the Miss Southern Rivers, Miss Capital City, and Miss Georgia Board for the life lessons I learned that still carry me through each day. While pageants are in my past, I will always call Greg, Galen, Snooky, Tate, Darrett, Amy, Kellie, Erin, DeWayne, Mark, and the rest of the Miss Georgia board my forever family.
