Bobbie Eakes: Miss Georgia 1982
Miss University of Georgia
Not long after winning the title of Miss Georgia, I moved to California to pursue a career in music. For three years, I lived in a small house in Burbank with former Miss America Debra Sue Maffett, former Miss Tennessee Desiree Daniels and former Miss Louisiana Bobbie Candler whom I’d all met while competing in the Miss America Pageant.
The four of us attended acting class at The Whitefire Theatre and it was there I met my future husband, David Steen. Not only was David the best actor in our class, highly respected by all the students and the instructor, turns out he was also a competent handyman and he often kindly visited our little house offering to do domestic repairs and odd jobs. Haha. Smart guy!
David and I dated for five years beginning in 1987 and were married in Warner Robins, GA in 1992. We’ve both enjoyed careers in TV and Film and Theater and for me the music industry, as well.
I got my first record deal on Epic Records in the 80’s and recorded an LP (remember those?) produced by Grammy and Oscar winning producer Giorgio Moroder. A very fond memory for me during those years is performing on American Bandstand with my band Big Trouble.
In the early 90’s, my Bold & Beautiful co-star Jeff Trachta and I recorded two CDs for European label Arcade Records. Our records achieved double platinum sales status and Jeff and I toured and performed to thousands of fans across Europe.
In 2001, while signed to Sony Nashville, I recorded a duet with Country Music superstar Collin Raye called Loving This Way. While touring with Collin I had the honor of performing on the Grand Ole Opry and the famous Greek Amphitheater in Los Angeles.
Some highlights of my acting career include guest star roles on Cheers, Full House, Jake and the Fatman, JAG and Hope & Faith. I also had two long stints on The Bold & The Beautiful and All My Children. I was honored with two Lead Actress Emmy noms for portraying Krystal on All My Children.
Throughout the years, I’ve also enjoyed Television hosting jobs. I worked as a veejay on MTV, I hosted GAC’s CRL and Top 20 Country Countdown and also hosted SoapNet’s Live from the Red Carpet Daytime Emmy Coverage.
Currently, David and I live in Palm Springs, California with our adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Nellie. David is still an actor, writer (and yes, handyman) and was most recently seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained as Mr. Stonecipher. I’m still acting and have also put more emphasis on my singing career. Currently, I’m really enjoying cruise ship entertaining, headlining on major cruise lines. David and I also own and operate a fitness center in Palm Springs called Solid.
I’m proud to be an official spokesperson for the American Cancer Society and also love doing work for Desert Aids Project and the international Meraih Bintang Foundation.
David and I are so blessed to still have my loving parents Audrey and Bob Eakes who have always supported their entire family in all their endeavors. Thank you, Mom and Dad! You, my sisters Susan, Sharon, Sandra and Shelly, their wonderful husbands Kirk, Richard, Steve and John and my nine nephews and nieces mean the world to me.
I’m very excited to be hosting the Miss Virginia Pageant for the third year in a row on June 26th-28th. “The Eakes Sisters” are looking forward to doing a reunion performance during Friday night’s preliminary competition. (You can watch on your computer at www.MissVA.com)
