Tap Dance to "Baby I'm a Star"
After competing for Miss America, I decided to compete for the title of Miss Georgia USA. I was excited about the chance to travel abroad in support of various organizations. I did not win Miss USA; however, I did get the unique opportunity to travel to East Africa for two months working with a non-profit organization. Being Miss Georgia USA opened my eyes to the world of entertainment. I dabbled a little at acting and landed a national commercial for Subway. My acting career was brief, but fun. I quickly realized that I missed my true calling. I missed teaching.
I worked for the Georgia Association of Educators for two years and quickly thereafter began teaching in HoustonCounty. I received my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and my specialist degree in Teaching and Leading from GeorgiaSouthwesternStateUniversity.
After five years of teaching, I was honored by being named “Teacher of the Year” for my school. Three months later, I was honored again to be named “CountyTeacher of the Year”, and just recently, I was selected as one of the Top Ten Finalist for “State Teacher of the Year”. The results for state will be announced in May.
On a personal level, I married my high school sweetheart, Kellen Miliner, in 2010. We have two sweet children. Our son, Jordan, was born in 2012, and our daughter, Avery, was born three months ago.
I am extremely thankful to be a part of the Miss America Family. They have provided me with educational opportunities, life experiences, and life-long friends and mentors.
