“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” – Erma Bombeck
This is the quote that Michaela Grace Best lives by. Michaela started her MAO journey in the Outstanding Teen division as Cobb County’s OT. She won the title of Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen 2007 as well as the Sue Ann Dixon Spirit Award (Miss Congeniality). She then came back to compete in the Miss Division as Miss Cherokee Rose 2010, placing 4thrunner-up and also winning the Miss Congeniality Award. In 2011, she won the title of Miss Heart of Lakes, and then won the coveted title of Miss Georgia 2011 along with a Preliminary Talent Award. At this time, she also holds the honor of being the first and only Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen to win the title of Miss Georgia. Michaela was awarded approximately $32,000 in cash scholarships under the Miss America Organization. During her years of MAO service she promoted her personal platform PASSION: Performing Artists Serving Society In Our Neighborhoods and helped raise over $38,000 for charity through benefit dance performances. PASSION fosters support for Arts Organizations, encourages participation in Arts Education programs, and shows artists how to use their talents to give back to their communities.
Currently, Michaela is finishing up her senior year at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she is pursuing her BFA as a contemporary dance major. This summer, she has been chosen to perform with Gaspard&Dancers at the American Dance Festival in Gaspard Louis’ work Annatations. Annatations evokes a dream state where the souls that perished in the catastrophic 2010 Haiti earthquake reconnect before moving on to their final destination, a place where all life began. She has also been accepted into a program to train/perform in Perthshire, Scotland. As for her plans after the summer of 2014, Michaela is being considered by several professional dance companies in the U.S. and U.K. for job opportunities as a professional dancer and/or arts management intern. She is working towards her dream of having a successful career performing and choreographing then, she eventually plans on taking her platform PASSION to a national/international level. Michaela is so thankful for the constant love and support of her husband Jeremy, family, and friends. Her advice to the contestants:
“Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.” – Mother Teresa
